I finally met Atlas. He does tricks, and is an all-around awesome dog.

Caribou Skull & Atlas Vertebrae

The atlas vertebra matches up to the foramen magnum at the back of the caribou's skull. In humans this feature is below the skull with the skull sitting atop the atlas vertebra rather than in front of it. The smooth area above the vertebra are probably for nuchal (neck) muscle attachments.
